Journey to Truth
Journey to Truth was developed in 2023 to expand social justice education and provide meaningful opportunities for community service. The program combines critical reading, dialogue, and on-the-ground experiences to deepen awareness and inspire action. In 2024, participants traveled to Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, exploring the history and present-day impact of racism through visits to the Civil Rights Institute and the EJI Legacy Museums. The trip also included volunteer service at the Heart of Alabama Food Bank and voter outreach in support of congressional candidates.
This ten-day experience focuses on the intersection of food and justice, exploring topics such as food accessibility, food waste, and the cultural preservation of food in northern New Mexico. Participants will engage in hands-on service work across local shelters, community distribution sites, and schools.
The journey will conclude with a public panel discussion at UNM-Taos, featuring local experts and government officials in conversation about equity, sustainability, and food systems in our region. Interested in joining? Reach out for more info.
